This is a list of some things I love to do to recharge, or help spark ideas. These are my creative supplements.
I find great joy in making things.
I love the physicality of fabrics, I really enjoy pattern making.
I am not formally trained, but I think the fact that we can recycle fabric into new and interesting things is formally awesome.
I like magazines, a lot. I wish I liked digital magazines more than I do. I tend to try to be responsible and read primarily digital news, but when I visit my family in small town Florida I always visit the library to buy their out of date fashion magazines and old copies of the newyorker to stash for enjoyable offline moments.
I would not consider myself a gamer, but Nintendo will forever loom large in my soul. I love the sense of wonder and joy their games bring. I cannot get enough of the feeling of WarioWare and playing it with a group of friends. Also, you can probably catch me on Splatoon 3 from time-to-time.
Bonus shout out for Labo, which was under appreciated for its brilliance.
I enjoy fashion, but I struggle to partake too frequently because it feels like an unnecessary excess in the current environment. But this often leads me to try and blend old and new. I love thrifting things with 'patina' and hand mending damaged items.
I have always been a big fan of toy making and toys.
I will randomly fall into nostalgia over a toy that spoke to me as a child, and then try and figure out why I cared so much about it.
Neopets changed me.
I really enjoy monster clay, and hope to rotocast an art toy in 2024.
I really love being a dad. I feel like I can enjoy certain things on a deeper level because of it. I know it's not for everyone, but it's super great for me.
I like to play instruments, I am very bad at most of them, but I think that might be what makes it fun, because then I don't feel any pressure to impress anyone when I write music, I can just do it for myself.
